The MetroWest Daily News reports:
The [Holliston] Zoning Board of Appeals last night opened a series of public hearings for a Chapter 40B development on property where the former owner, Charlie Bird, allegedly buried construction debris, tires and drums of tar, and dumped the cancer-causing agent trichloroethylene (TCE).The developer, Green View Realty, presented an overview of the project called Cedar Ridge, which would include 200 residential units.
J. Michael Norton, president of Green View Realty and a Holliston native, said one of the reasons he is developing the land is to rid it of contaminants. “We picked this site because it needs to get cleaned up.”
In the early 1980s, the state Department of Environmental Protection conducted a large-scale cleanup, unearthing thousands of tires and tar drums….In an interview in February, Norton said, “The rumor on this project is godzilla really is buried out there.”
…Norton has also said preliminary environmental tests have shown some contaminants too far underground to be removed. He said he will restrict building on those portions of the property.
